Most cinema design companies turn their attention first to the look of a cinema. At Defining Cinemas, we dive into the sound experience by focusing on how many speakers are needed and their layout in the space. From that, we develop the aesthetic.
Our industry, and most surround specifications, focus on a single row of seating but search…. Specialized engineering is needed to drive the best sound experience to as many seats as possible. This is what separates Defining Cinemas from other trades.

Our background includes time at one of the top surround companies and representation of top-tier speaker, projector, and lighting manufacturers. Defining Cinemas has long been riding the cutting edge of home cinema technology. Our designs started with 5.1 surround and have progressed to 32-channel systems.

discussion
We meet with you and your client to establish the baselines for the experience they desire. Are we designing the room specifications from scratch or designing for an existing space? What do your clients want for aesthetics? How many seats do they want? What materials and colors will we use? Once this is defined, we dive in.
planning
From site-lines to speaker placement and seating to subwoofers, we plan for the best performance. Here, consultation begins with the other specialists working in your space. (Framers, Dry-wallers, HVAC technicians, Electricians, etc…).
design
Our deliverables include photorealistic 3D renders to showcase the cinema concept. Sample boards with fabric and leather selections, millwork stain and paint samples are also created for approval. All of this is done with the technical specifications of performance in mind.
manufacture
Everything we do is custom, from the fabrics, textures, and millwork, to lighting and seating. We take great pride in every step of the process and our craftspeople have decades of experience in the production of acoustics and luxury millwork.
install
Our team makes your dream cinema take shape! Columns and panels, along with the lighting are all painstakingly installed, alongside finish work from your audio video dealer. Lastly, the seats go in, the lights get turned down low, and a system calibration sets the final piece for your experience.

Each space is different and each client is unique. Every cinema and element within is custom and will be precision-made. it also needs to be precision-made. Every surface has a purpose, from wood to glass, fabric to leather. We have all the tools for producing precision millwork, acoustic panels, and even shaping natural and synthetic stone.

Whether it’s an animated short or binge-watching your favorite movie trilogy, home cinema seating is made with one purpose in mind – emotional comfort. Home Cinema seating differs from traditional seating in several ways. First, good cinema seating is built more solidly to handle the rigors of motorized recline mechanisms. Another way cinema seating differs is in the use of materials. Higher density foam and better leathers often create a more comfortable sit for longer periods of time, and a longer life to the chair or sofa, overall. Lastly, they can be customized more readily than just colors and fabrics. While they may cost more than what you can purchase at the furniture store down the road, they are much more comfortable to sit in for the extended edition and long haul.
